Spain has overtaken Germany to become Bangladesh’s largest European Union market for apparel during the July-September period of fiscal year 2026-27. According to a report by The Daily Star, readymade garment shipments to Spain reached $1.14 billion during this first quarter.
Data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) shows that exports to Spain posted nearly 14 percent year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, exports to Germany remained steady at $1.12 billion, registering a negative growth of 0.15 percent.
Spain accounted for 23.4 percent of total garment shipments from Bangladesh during the period. Germany accounted for 22.9 percent of the total shipments, according to data compiled by Bangladesh Apparel Voice (BAV).
Among other major European destinations, exports to the Netherlands grew 9 percent year-on-year to $597 million. The Netherlands accounted for over 12 percent of total garment shipments during the three-month period.
Exports to France declined by 5 percent to $449 million, while shipments to other countries also dropped. Overall readymade garment exports to the European Union reached $4.9 billion, marking 3 percent year-on-year growth during the July-September period of FY27.
