Uber’s $2.3bn cash purchase of ezCater puts a Bangladeshi‑American CEO at the centre of its biggest push into catering.
Uber Technologies announced Tuesday it will buy US catering platform ezCater for $2.3 billion in cash. The deal adds ezCater’s corporate food‑ordering service to Uber Eats and Uber for Business.
ezCater, founded in 2007, lets firms order meals from local caterers for meetings and events. In the last year the platform recorded more than $2.5 billion in gross bookings and its average order tops $400.
Uber said its delivery arm contributed about 37 percent of total revenue in the second quarter and grew faster than any other segment. The acquisition is expected to lift margins and expand the high‑value B2B line that grew over 40 percent in Q2, according to Rosenblatt analyst Scott Devitt.
For Bangladesh, the deal highlights the global reach of a leader who began his career in Dhaka and now heads a company valued at billions. It also shows how Bangladeshi talent can shape major tech deals.
The purchase follows Uber’s July agreement to buy Germany’s Delivery Hero for $14.8 billion. That deal aims to create the world’s largest food‑delivery group outside China and narrow the gap with DoorDash in the US market.
The transaction awaits regulator sign‑off and is slated to close later this year.
