Biman Bangladesh Airlines will sign a deal today for ten new Airbus jets, a move that marks a major step in its fleet expansion.
The signing ceremony, called “Spreading Our Wings Together”, will be held at Utshab Hall in the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden at 6:30pm. The ceremony will be attended by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir. Invest Bangladesh chairman Ashik Chowdhury and Airbus South Asia head Jürgen Westermeier will also be present.
The package consists of four A350‑900 widebody aircraft and six A321neo narrowbody jets. Sources close to the negotiation say the deal is valued at more than $2 billion.
The new planes are intended to support Biman’s plans to grow long‑haul and regional routes, giving the carrier modern capacity and fuel efficiency.
Together with recent Boeing purchases, the Airbus order brings the total new‑aircraft pipeline to 35 planes, 19 widebody and 16 narrowbody, the largest expansion in the airline’s history.
Earlier this month Biman signed a supplementary agreement in New York for five Boeing 787‑10 Dreamliners and six 737‑8 MAXs, adding to the 14‑aircraft deal signed in April. The combined Boeing orders now total 25 aircraft, worth about $2.7 billion for the supplement and $3.7 billion for the original contract, according to the minister. Deliveries are scheduled to start in November 2031 and the final aircraft is due by 2035. Biman has asked Boeing to move at least one delivery forward to 2027 or 2028.
The Airbus signing today completes the first phase of Biman’s ambitious fleet renewal programme.
